As you know, our motto around here is Warriors 4 Warriors and Help 4 Heroes and we aren’t too particular about the definition of either. So, usually, this space is reserved so that one of our staff can tell a story about one of our clients who has a special need today that we are asking you to help with. Today, this space is being used to tell you about someone who isn’t a client but who has a special need today that we are asking you to help with.
I’m going to preserve the privacy of a very special friend of mine by not giving her name. If you are here reading this, I presume that you either know her or you know me.
Today’s battle is a matter of life and death, literally. My girl has gone through so much – she lost her husband and then her sister – and has never faltered or wavered or had a moment when she said “poor little me”. She has just kept a quick smile and a quicker laugh even though things were tough.
A few months ago, she called me and told me that she had a strange rash on her breast. I thought it was odd but it is just a rash after all. I really wasn’t even concerned about her. Then I got a second call that she had breast cancer. Then another call that it was aggressive. Then another call that she was in Stage 3 – B and would have to undergo chemo, surgery, radiation and re-construction. I cried. Maybe she did too but she certainly never showed me.
She is undergoing that chemo right now. She is tired and she is sick but she was smiling when she sent me the picture of herself after shaving her head.
You see, my friend isn’t our usual Warrior but she is a Warrior now. She isn’t our usual Hero but she’s my Hero. She is the one person in the world who can beat this enemy but she needs our help. The cost is substantial even with insurance and our Friend, this Warrior, my Hero cannot do it alone.
We are starting here with 50/50 drawing tickets and straight donations. We are working on gathering prizes to raffle off so please check back often. Every single dime is going to be donated directly to our Friend until her expenses are paid in full and she has kicked cancer’s ass at which point we will either find a new hero to help or we will donate to a cancer fund of her choosing. As usual, W4W won’t be taking a dime!
Thanks and much love! – SAM
